Convert a video to MP4

Turn MOV, WebM or MKV files into an MP4 that plays on every phone, TV, editor and website. If the video is already H.264, it is copied without losing quality.

Why MP4

MP4 with H.264 video and AAC audio is the one combination that plays practically everywhere: Windows, Mac, iPhone, Android, smart TVs, every browser and every editing app. MOV files from iPhones, WebM files from screen recorders and MKV files from downloads often don't.

How it works

If your file already contains H.264 video, it is moved into an MP4 container as it is, which takes seconds and keeps the quality. Other codecs, such as HEVC from newer iPhones, VP9 or AV1, are re-encoded to H.264, which takes longer.

Questions

Is my video uploaded?

No. The file is read and processed inside this browser tab. It never leaves your computer, which is also why there is no size limit and no queue.

My iPhone video will not convert. Why?

Newer iPhones record in HEVC. Converting it needs your browser to decode HEVC: Safari on a Mac does, and Chrome and Edge on Windows do when the system has the HEVC extension. If not, try Safari on a Mac or an iPhone.

Does converting lose quality?

Not when the video is already H.264, because it is copied. When re-encoding is needed, it uses a high bitrate so the difference is hard to see.
